Dear Montclair State University,
I am deeply concerned about the news that the product design program at MSU may be discontinued. As a proud alumna of the program from the class of 2019, I have experienced firsthand the outstanding quality and value that this program provides to its students.
MSU's product design curriculum is among the best in the country and is comparable to the programs offered at well-known art and design universities. With product design being a field that is not offered at many universities, MSU's program is unique in that it provides an affordable tuition to students interested in pursuing this field. Moreover, this program attracts a diverse range of students from various backgrounds and experiences.
What distinguishes MSU's product design program from others is its open-ended approach to projects, which allows students to explore and develop their own focus in product design. The program's alumni consist of shoe designers, UX designers, tabletop designers, accessory designers, and more, demonstrating the diversity and strength of this program and the unique value it brings to the industry.
I strongly urge MSU to reconsider its decision to terminate the product design program. The program not only offers excellent training to students but also brings diversity and unique perspectives to the industry. Discontinuing this program would deprive underrepresented groups of a rare opportunity to enter the product design industry and rob the industry of the fresh perspectives and valuable contributions of a diverse group of designers.
As an alumna of this program, I am saddened by the prospect of its closure. The product design program at MSU has been an integral part of my career development, and I am aware that it has provided similar opportunities for many other students. I implore MSU to take into consideration the unique value that this program brings and to reconsider its decision to end it.
